I was 27 when my next-door neighbor Kristen was diagnosed with cancer. Even though she and her husband had great benefits, she ran through her sick and personal days in less than a month, and lost her state job and her insurance. They had to sell one of their cars, move out of their house, and move in with one of the families in the church. I realized then how fragile our experience of life really is - and how quickly it can change. I've had my insurance license ever since.
